Background
The Regional Skilled Migration Program
Since 1999, there has been an increase in the number of skilled and business migrants settling in Victoria. These migrants have brought with them the skills that have helped develop and build our regions. The Victorian Government is determined to grow Victoria’s population, particularly regional Victoria. To facilitate skilled regional migration, 11 regions in Victoria have appointed a coordinator. In the North East of Victoria, Charles Halter has been appointed.
There is a need to encourage more skilled and business migrants with the specific skills that are in demand in our region, in particularjobs like mechanics, fabricators, doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, town planners and engineers.
Migrants have shaped the face of Australia during the last 200 years and they continue to bring a diverse range of new skills and cultural experiences to Victoria.
Skilled migrants will continue to help build a multicultural society which will be essential for population sustainability and regional growth in the future.
The Regional Skilled Migration Program will assist communities to meet future skill and employment needs and support the growth of sustainable industries and jobs for all Victorians.
Can't find the People You Need?
They can find you. If you are running a business, you probably know it's sometimes hard to find skilled employees, particularly in regional areas. It can be a serious issue for your business. It may hinder your business from taking on new contracts or expanding.
Are you prepared to sponsor a migrant with just the skills you need, eg give them a job for two years? Then the Regional Skilled Migration Program can help you, and you can help a skilled person settle in Victoria.
What do New Settlers in Our Community Need?
Housing, schooling, childcare and preschool services, health services, banking, access to sporting and community groups for friendships and activities. How can you help? By improving your listening skills if accents are different, by offering assistance and friendship, and by using your contacts and resources to help the new families settle happily in the north east.
