North East Multicultural Association
In consideration of the influx of a number of new migrants and with an existing population of migrants, the North East Multicultural Association (NEMA) was formally established in February 2005 to help support the needs of the different multicultural groups in the region. NEMA’s mission is to be “the voice of multiculturalism in North East Victoria”.
The success of the formation of NEMA is attributed to the dynamic partnership between the community, local and State Government, Victorian Multicultural Commission and the Ethnic Community Council of Victoria. Membership is made up of local community groups from different ethnic backgrounds and local government representatives.
The North East Multicultural Association represents five municipalities, which include the Rural Cities of Benalla and Wangaratta and the Shires of Alpine, Indigo and Mansfield.
NEMA strongly advocates on behalf of multicultural people in the north rast, by identifying and raising issues which will establish inclusive communities.
